Adoption Visa Overview
The Adoption Visa allows children adopted outside Australia to live with their adoptive parents in Australia.
Eligibility Criteria for the Child
To qualify for an adoption visa, the child must:
- Be outside Australia at the time of application.
- Be under 18 years old at three stages:
- When they were adopted.
- When the visa application is submitted.
- When the visa decision is made.
- Be legally adopted or in the process of being legally adopted by their parent.
Eligibility Criteria for the Sponsor
The sponsor must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
- Be the child’s adoptive parent or soon-to-be adoptive parent.
