GRADUATE 485
You can apply for a 485 visa after studying in Australia for two years on a student visa.
The Graduate 485 visa is divided into two streams.
Apply for 485 GRADUATE STREAM if you have completed Certificate III, IV, or Diploma level studies.
Apply for the 485 POST-STUDY WORK STREAM if you have a BACHELOR’S or MASTER’S degree.
GRADUATE STREAM 485
Students who have completed two years of study at the Certificate III, IV, or Diploma level in Australia are eligible for the graduate stream.
This visa is valid for 1.5 years and includes full study and employment privileges.
When applying for this stream, you must select an occupation from the MLTSSL.
Criteria for eligibility:
- The course must have been completed within the last six months.
- While completing the study, you were physically present in Australia for at least 16 calendar months.
- You were in Australia for at least 2 years (92 weeks) and had a student visa.
- In the occupation, apply for a provisional 485 skills assessment.
When applying for a 485 visa, you must show documentation that you have completed this skills exam.
You only need to present a receipt; your skills evaluation does not need to be completed at the time of your 485 visa application. - Health Care Coverage
- Federal Police of Australia Check
- In the previous six months, you must have held a student visa.
(If you have a BVA or BVB and were on a student visa in the previous year, you can apply for a 485 visa.)
485 STREAM POST STUDY
Students who have completed two years of study at the bachelor’s or master’s level in Australia are eligible for the post-study track.
This visa is valid for two years and includes full study and employment privileges.
If you have completed a Masters by Research, you will be eligible for 485 for three years.
If you hold a PHD, you will be eligible for 485 for four years.
This stream has no occupations listed.
If you applied for and were awarded your first student visa on or after November 5, 2011, you are only eligible for this stream.
Criteria for eligibility:
- The course must have been completed within the last six months.
- While completing the study, you were physically present in Australia for at least 16 calendar months.
- You were in Australia for at least 2 years (92 weeks) and had a student visa.
